Hey friends,
I'm so excited (and a little nervous!) to announce the launch of my new podcast, Driftwood Conversations. We're celebrating the first episode this Wednesday from 5 to 8 PM at The Big Dez in Joshua Tree, and I'd love for you to come by, say hello, and maybe even share a moment or two.
Nowadays, it feels like the world is pressing in from all sides. There's so much noise, division, and uncertainty. But I believe—maybe more than ever—that conversations matter. Real ones. The kind that help us feel less alone. The kind that remind us we’re all navigating this strange, beautiful life together.
Driftwood Conversations is about creating space to listen, reflect, and connect.
For this first episode, I sat down with someone very dear to me: Miri Hunter. If you know her, you know what a light she is—writer, musician, director, performer, creator, and seeker. We recorded our conversation at my Joshua Tree house, the same place I once photographed her for an album cover while she was recovering from a serious illness. Even then, her presence filled the room.
Our talk wandered in all the best ways—from her childhood surrounded by music in Virginia to her path through academia and the arts, to finding something sacred in the stillness of the desert. We talked about yoga and breath, ancestors and healing, illness and creativity—and always, the thread of love. It’s a meditation on what it means to be here now, alive and connected.
Some of the themes we touched on:
Growing up with music and creativity as constant companions
How illness can shape spiritual and creative transformation
Finding identity and meaning in solitude
The body as sacred
Ancestors, legacy, and invisible support
Creativity as a form of love
The quiet sparks that keep us moving
Miri’s story doesn’t unfold in a straight line—it spirals, like so many of our stories do. It’s her way of being with the unknown. It's graceful, grounded, and deeply inspiring.
The podcast is now live on Spotify, Apple, and YouTube. A new episode will be released every Wednesday at 4:00 AM. Meet the incredible people I'm meeting, and feel the connection to something bigger. I hope this sparks an ongoing conversation about how we live, love, grow, and show up for one another.
Come celebrate with me this Wednesday. Bring a friend, a story, or just your beautiful self.
With love and gratitude,
Hilary
