2024 was a transformative year for me—intense, challenging, and profoundly life-changing. Just three months before the new year, my partner moved in, and I found myself questioning the direction of my life. I had considered starting a voice-over business, but the deeper I explored it, the less it felt like the right fit. Then, during the 2023 holiday season, I was suddenly confronted with debilitating pain caused by a herniated disc pressing on a nerve in my lower back. The months that followed were consumed by pain, searching for solutions, and eventually undergoing surgery in April 2024.
Those bedridden days unexpectedly brought clarity. I felt compelled to clean the slate, to release my preconceptions about who I was and what I thought I knew. When the pain was finally gone, and I re-entered my life, a sense of purpose emerged. I realized I needed to do something meaningful.
Guided by an internal compass, I’ve always trusted, I began considering a podcast. Initially, the idea was sparked by a desire to counter the divisiveness and hostility I saw during the Trump campaign. I thought, What if people could hear the stories of others—people they don’t know but might judge? Over time, I realized it was about more than that. I was longing for connection. I wanted to have conversations with people from all walks of life to uncover the wisdom in their stories. And so, Driftwood Conversations was born.
The process wasn’t instant—it took months of research, introspection, and guidance. Podcasters like Brené Brown, Krista Tippett, and the Kitchen Sisters inspired me. Their wisdom was my lifeline during those early days. I also sought mentorship through LinkedIn, the San Bernardino Small Business Association, and trusted friends who shared their experience in podcasting and blogging. Each step brought me closer to shaping my vision.
After months of preparation, Driftwood Conversations took shape. Six episodes have already been recorded and are in various editing stages, and four more conversations are scheduled for this week. Once the ten episodes are completed, I’ll begin sharing them with the world, one episode a week, and newsletter updates once a week.
This podcast explores the unexpected beauty and meaning in life stories and conversations with people who live life fully. It’s about finding connection, honoring the sacred, and amplifying voices that inspire creativity, resilience, and transformation.
Subscriptions to Driftwood Conversations are free, though I plan to offer donation options in the future. I welcome comments from the community and look forward to connecting on Substack or through the podcast.
